#Notmypresident

President Trump is the leader of the United States. He is also a frequent twitter user and says unbelievable statements. His hair, his predilection for making up words (“yuge”), and his orange skin have led to his stardom on instagram memes. However, we would be fools to neglect his serious actions and focus on his entertainment factor. It’s obvious that Trump has appointed unsuitable individuals to his cabinet that will be detrimental to our nation not just during the Trump presidency but also to years that follow. Starting from now, we must be vigilant in making sure that the White House does not pass any laws or acts that will damage our quality of life.

The most alarming appointment may very well be Betsy DeVos, secretary of education. As an individual with much more experience with the private school system that public schools, she has expressed disdain for public education in favor of a charter school system. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 50.4 million Americans attended public school in 2016. For now and for many years to come, the majority of the American population will for some part receive and benefit from public education. Therefore, an individual who supports and has experience with the public school system could change our nation for the better.

Vice President Mike Pence is also a figure that turned heads so far this year. From calling his wife “mother” to harboring anti-gay beliefs, Pence does not represent the ideas and beliefs of many Americans. Yet, some individuals are hoping for a President Pence. No matter how flamboyant and ludicrous Trump may seem, allowing Pence to serve as leader could spell trouble. Americans should not settle with a leader who assumed power without much credibility, foundation, or people’s support.

Ultimately, there are many more members of the cabinet deserving scrutiny. Nevertheless, Americans must ensure that the decisions of the White House does not negatively impact the nation.

Sumin, I find your argument on President Trump and his poor cabinet choices very interesting and true. Trump has created himself quite an image on social media and often times we all get carried away by that. Instead, we should be focusing on how to prevent any detrimental laws from passing that will damage the future of our youth. In relation to education, as you mentioned Sumin, Betsy DeVos, our secretary of education supports and rallies for private schooling which represents a very slim number of our youth today with a majority of the kids getting their education from public schools. With a office member like her, it is vital that we take responsibility to ensure that students in public schools are not harmed or affected with any bills passed by her.
From your argument Sumin, I actually learned more about Mike Pence, what he represents and American’s views on him. I learned that many Americans hope to see him as a President after Trump, which could create conflicts as much of America’s future may not be a reflection of Mike Pence’s views: anti-gay, anti-immigration, and more.
Along with Betsy DeVos and Mike Pence, President Trump has appointed many controversial people such as Nikki Haley. I agree with you Sumin that in order for this country to progress we all must become more active, more knowledgeable and be able to speak up.

Sumin, first, I find your title to the fifth blog very interesting, as you claim that Donald Trump is not your president, however, the first sentence of your post states clearly that he is the “leader of the United States”. After that, you claim that Trump is simply an entertainment factor, which has nothing to do with politics. From reading your introduction, it does not make sense that because Trump is on social media, it is obvious that he has made poor choices on who to appoint to his cabinet.
Another point of yours I disagree with is that Betsy DeVos is a poor choice because of her negative view of the public education system, since she claimed that she would be “a strong advocate for great public schools.” She also added, “If a school is troubled, or unsafe, or not a good fit for a child, we should support a parent’s right to enroll their child in a high-quality alternative.” (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/05/23/devos-school-choice-will-not-be-mandated-by-washington.html) Her view is that children should be able to receive a quality education and have options available on how to receive that education, which is in fact good for America.
In the third paragraph of the blog, you claim that Mike Pence is a poor vice president and future candidate for president. However, your argument is controversial, as you state that Pence does not represent the ideas of many Americans, but then add that individuals are hoping for a President Pence. Since the thought of a possible Pence presidency has come up, clearly some Americans support his views and are represented by his actions. Even if many Americans do not agree with his beliefs, many do, as with many politicians. I do not think this paragraph was very beneficial to the argument against Pence, as it does not focus on his political beliefs, but rather the fact that he once called his wife “mother”.
Finally, I would think it would have been beneficial to your post to provide the names of the other cabinet members who “deserve scrutiny,” and the reasons why they do, since I am not convinced by your post that either DeVos, Pence, or Trump have been detrimental to the United States.
